Course overview

The Initial Safety Management System (SMS) and Human Factor (HF) online training is mandatory aviation training for Safety Management and Human Factors issues.

SMS + HF Initial training is applicable for all maintenance engineers, technicians and mechanics in maintenance organizations (Part-145 AMO) and also for technical staff in Continuing Airworthiness Management Organizations (Part-M, Part-CAMO and Part-ML).

SMS + HF Initial training assures validity of certification authorization and compliance with regulations for next two years. Includes brief review of basic Safety Management System and Human Factors principles.

SMS + HF initial training includes new instructions, related to the Safety Management System implementation in EASA approved Maintenance Organizations associated with the human behavior, communication and technical requirements in relation to safety while maintaining aircraft, including all support functions.

Training Type

On-line SMS + HF Initial training includes video presentation with voice over recordings in duration of 10 hours.

Compliance of the course

The content of this Initial SMS + HF training is in compliance with Initial course is compliant with (EU) 2021/1963, EASA Part-145 AMC2 145.A.30(e) and GM1 145.A.30(e)

The aim of content

The term ‘Safety Management System’ (SMS) refers to the formal top-down, organization-wide approach to managing safety risk and assuring the effectiveness of safety risk controls. It includes systematic procedures, practices, and policies for the management of safety risk.

A safety management system (SMS) in aviation maintenance and airworthiness organizations is defined as an organization-wide process designed to manage safety risk in the workplace. A safety management system can be created to fit any business type and/or industry sector. Generally, effective SMS processes and procedures: Define how the organization manages risk.

The term ‘Human factors’ (HF) refers to the principles which apply to aeronautical design, certification, training, operations and maintenance whilst seeking to ensure a safe interface between a human and other system components by paying due consideration to human performances.

In order to reduce the impact of human factors, it is highly important to ensure that all the processes involved in the maintenance of aeronautical products are analyzed and any procedural requirements are adhered to at all times.

Many investigations of accidents/incidents in aviation have revealed “human factors” to be an important element in the chain of unfortunate events.
